Aziz M Merchant, MD

Aziz Merchant, M.D. FACS, is a board certified surgeon who specializes in Bariatric and General surgery. With a specialized focus on weight loss surgical procedures as well as minimally invasive and robotic surgery, Dr. Merchant is committed to providing the best care for his patients. Dr. Merchant covers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient procedures and works closely with each patient to develop a customized surgical plan. He has been practicing for many years and has been very involved in the development of robotic surgery. Prior to joining HMH, Dr. Merchant has served many roles at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS)/University Hospital network. Dr. Merchant's roles included the Division Chief of General Surgery and MIS and Director of the Surgical Simulation Education program at Rutgers NJMS. Dr. Merchant helped expand the Minimally Invasive and Robotic General Surgery program at University Hospital Newark. Dr. Merchant has conducted extensive research in minimally invasive, foregut, and acute care surgery as well as surgical health disparities. Dr. Merchant will be an excellent addition to the Hackensack Meridian JFK University Medical Center.
