Annie Laurie Benzie, MD

Annie Laurie Benzie, M.D., is a fellowship-trained, board-certified general surgeon who has recently joined the Hackensack Meridian Medical Group team. Dr. Benzie specializes in Advanced Gastrointestinal Surgery and is an expert in minimally invasive robotic surgery. This approach allows for enhanced precision and control during complex procedures, offering patients significant benefits such as smaller incisions, less pain, and a faster recovery. Her clinical interests include foregut disorders such as GERD, hiatal hernias, and achalasia, with a particular interest in esophageal and gastric cancers. Through her fellowship training, she also gained experience in hepatopancreaticobiliary surgery.

Dr. Benzie is an active member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, the Society of the American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, as well as the Association of Women Surgeons. She has joined the well-established and highly regarded Comprehensive Surgical Associates practice and will be working alongside Kumar Dasmahapatra, M.D., FACS, who has served the community of central New Jersey for over 35 years. As a native New Yorker, Dr. Benzie is excited for the opportunity to take care of patients close to home.
